📊 SIPOC Complexity Score Calculator
Analyze your process complexity and get improvement recommendations
🎯 What is SIPOC Analysis?
SIPOC is a powerful process mapping tool used in Six Sigma and Lean methodologies to provide a high-level overview of any process. It helps teams understand the key elements before diving into detailed improvement work.
💡 Why Assess Complexity?
Understanding your process complexity helps you allocate the right resources, set realistic timelines, and choose appropriate improvement methodologies. A highly complex process requires more planning, stakeholder engagement, and phased implementation than a simple one.
📊 The Five SIPOC Elements
Suppliers
Who provides inputs to the process? This could be internal teams, external vendors, or upstream processes.
Inputs
What materials, information, or resources are needed? Think documents, raw materials, data, approvals.
Process
The core activities or steps that transform inputs into outputs. Keep these high-level (5-7 steps maximum).
Outputs
What the process produces - products, services, information, or decisions that result from the process.
Customers
Who receives the outputs? Internal teams, external clients, or downstream processes that use your results.
🚀 How to Use This Calculator
Step 1: Map Your Process
Go to the Calculator tab and document 5-7 high-level process steps. For each step, identify:
- Who supplies the inputs (Supplier)
- What you need to start (Input)
- What activity is performed (Process)
- What is produced (Output)
- Who receives it next (Customer)
Step 2: Calculate Complexity
Click "Calculate Complexity Score" to analyze your process. The calculator evaluates:
- Number of unique suppliers and customers
- Variety of inputs and outputs
- Process steps documented
- Handoff points between different parties
Step 3: Review Results
Navigate to the Results tab to see your complexity score and category. You'll receive specific recommendations based on your score.
✨ Pro Tips
Keep It High-Level: Don't document every micro-step. Focus on major activities.
Watch for Handoffs: Every time the "customer" of one step doesn't match the "supplier" of the next, you have a handoff - a common source of delays and errors.
Download Your Analysis: Use the Excel export button to save your SIPOC diagram and share it with stakeholders.
Document your process steps below. Add 5-7 high-level steps for best results. Each row represents one major activity in your process flow.
| # | Supplier(Who provides) | Input(What's needed) | Process(The activity) | Output(What's produced) | Customer(Who receives) | Action |
